1945年7月28日、伊勢はアメリカ軍艦載機の空襲により直撃弾を受けて大破、右舷に15度傾斜して着底した。空襲後、伊勢の二番砲塔は三式弾が装填で火災もひどく暴発の恐れもあったため発射。このときの主砲発射が奇しくも日本海軍戦艦の最後の大口径砲の発砲となった。
